So what is it about this car that I find myself at the grand old oge of 52 sitting on the ground waxing my alloys? According to my older son it is some sort of miracle; me having always been the person to say "it's just a car, with a wheel at each corner and one to steer so you can get from A to B. It doesn't matter what it looks like". He drives a Golf and my husband drives a Mercedes C class and they have never understood my total indiference to what I drive. I always thought I had an ally in my youngest son, who drives a Ka, but he disillusioned me recently when he started talking about what he would drive next. Then suddenly I ordered my Smartie and my whole life has changed.

Who would have thought I would start taking the time to research paint protection, fabric protection and waxing your alloys? I can't wait until tomorrow when I am driving somewhere new and will need to use the Sat Nav. I thought about sitting in the car tongiht and firing up the Sat Nav, just to see if everything worked OK before tomorrow. In the end I decided that the neighbours had seen enough of me drooling over my own little piece of automotive engineering since I picked it up on Wednesday. So far I have sprayed a triple layer of fabric protection on the interior, protected the exterior paint with a high tech, nanotechnology, magic potion, connected and tested my mp3, and did I mention waxing the alloys? I even allowed my husband to drive it yesterday so that he could join me in singing it's praises. Strangely he wasn't quite as effusive in his praise as I had expected him to be, Philistine. It must be a super intelligent Smart owners thing! You know what I mean: only those intelligent enough to buy a Smart are intelligent enough to fully appreciate it's attributes.

Nice to see your little chariot is being looked after well and has gone to a good home. I use Mer wheel wax which is so easy to apply and extremely effective aswell. There is one thing you must buy for the car and that is a K%N airfilter. You do not mention if your Smart is a petrol or diesel. If its the petrol version changing the filter is very easy but if its the CDi it is very complex. The whole rear bumper has to be removed to get at the turbo. I had the job done at Liverpools main dealership because the job on the Cdi is far from straighforward due to the particle filter and intercooler pipes are all dependant on the fuel management and airfilter working together. A K&N once fitted will eventually pay for itsel and is well worth fitting.

Hey I get exactly where you are coming from. I spent 15 years working for what may be described as the enemy, Audi. I worked for the manufacturer, travelled the world, visited umpteen factories and was generally bewildered by the technology and in awe of the brand as a manufacturer, they truly are amazing. I have petrol in my veins. I have owned and driven so many performance cars I have lost count....and yet I recently purchased my Smart fortwo passion in white, to reduce my carbon footprint and enjoy better congested city traffic more than my usual ride. I was also getting hacked of with putting £600 worth of fuel a month in my other car (Audi A6 3ltr Tdi Quattro). So, my Smart arrived, I havent driven one before, I ordered it blind, it seemed like a good thing. Used its arrival to book in the A6 for some cosmetic work. Should have picked it up 5 weeks ago from the bodyshop....but so delighted and amazed by my Smart, i have no intention of driving it again, brilliant!
